P.E.

Outdoor PE: Wednesday

Swimming: Thursday afternoon.

The children do need to bring their P.E kit into school and will need to bring this in for every lesson. If your child is unable to remove their own earrings then they should be removed in the morning before school or plasters will need to be sent in with your child so that they can cover their earrings before PE.  Children with long hair will need a hair tie for P.E.

FOREST SCHOOL

Tuesday

Forest School is on a Tuesday afternoon. Children are encouraged to wear their Forest School clothing to school on a Tuesday (including a long sleeve top, long bottoms such as leggings or tracksuit bottoms and suitable footwear) and bring a change of footwear for the rest of the day.

HOMEWORK

The children will be given homework booklets for Maths and English each week on a Friday, which are to be completed and handed in by the following Tuesday.  If your child finds any particular task really challenging and you have had to give a lot of assistance, please send a message on DOJO and we will be happy to support.

A weekly spelling assignment, linked to the weekly spelling pattern, will also be put on Ed Shed (Spelling Shed) for the children to complete.  In addition, we ask that children keep practising their times tables regularly on Times Tables Rock Stars.  The more your child practices their spelling and times tables, the better they will become at both.

READING

At Whitehill, we want children to develop a love of reading.  You can help at home by listening to your child read and encouraging them to read every night.  The more they read, the more they will become confident and fluent at reading.  Boom Reader is a digital reading record which allows you to log your child's reading activity.

CLASS DOJO

Class Dojo is a way for teachers to encourage students and contact parents about their child's progress in class.  It can be used online or downloaded as an app on iOS and Android devices. Please ask if you require a copy of your log in.
We will be using this in class alongside our Good to be Green system. We will discuss the ways in which points are gained or lost during circle times to ensure that it fits in with our behaviour policy. Children can access at home to personalise their avatars.

EDUCATIONAL VISITS

Golden Mummies of Egypt Exhibition

On Friday 22nd March, Year 3 visited Manchester Museum to see the Golden Mummies of Egypt exhibition, in preparation for studying what Ancient Egyptians believed in History during the Summer term.   First, we visited the museum's Ancient Egyptian archaeology section and found some incredible artefacts dating back to as long ago as 5000BC!

Then, we saw the Golden Mummies of Egypt exhibition, which displayed a collection of mummies and showed how they were preserved and decorated.  We also learnt about the Egyptian temples and how important the Egyptian gods were.
