WHITEHILL NEWSLETTER January 2013 - 2

Dear Parents/Carers,

It has certainly been a very cold start back and with snow on the way please make sure the children have a change of shoes or pumps to change into when they get to school  .

Last night some of our children went to the M.E.N  to sing with many other schools .All the staff were so proud of our children and they really were fantastic. Many of you have been into school to say what a wonderful night it was .I know the children will certainly have wonderful memories of the evening.

Readers of the week

Most of our children enjoy reading and we appreciate the support that many of you give to your children at home . Listening to them read a few minutes each night certainly makes a difference.

We wanted to celebrate the reading in school. Each week a child is chosen from each class for their superb reading they receive a special certificate and bookmark in Praise assembly .They also have their photograph up in the special gold display cabinet in the hall for the week.

Wishes

At the moment we are looking at our star wishes for the new year. We have a set that all the school have agreed on. They are on display in the hall and we are really going to work hard to keep them. One star wish is to keep the lost property bin empty .....as yet we have never succeeded but we are going to try hard. You can help us  PLEASE can you put your child’s name in their clothes it really would make a difference.

The children have made their individual wishes for either home or school .Do ask your children they have really thought about what they want to achieve this year.

After school clubs

Change 4 life is on each Thursday from 3.15-4.15 it is open to children in years three and four. It is free and the children have a really fun time. If you would like your child to join please see Mrs Munton.

Contact details

It is so important that we have a contact number in case of emergencies. If you have changed your telephone number or address please let Mrs Munton know immediately .We will be sending out data sheets over the next few weeks please return them to the office only if there has been a change of details

Jewellery

We have noticed bracelets and necklaces and hoop ear-rings are starting to appear in school .For health and safety reasons our uniform policy clearly states that only watches and small stud ear-rings are allowed in school. The Children have to remove their ear-rings for PE/swimming.

Attendance

Thank you for your support with attendance. Letting school know of absences first thing in the morning is a real help. The children are so proud of their attendance stars ...our aim is to have even more children wearing them .Please remember

“We can’t teach an empty chair” we need them in school on time every day .

If you are going to be late collecting your child at the end of the school day please let school know. There are quite a number of children waiting each night in the library we appreciate sometimes it can happen but we have regular children being collected at 3.30 -3,45 . School for the children ends at 3.15.

We are aiming to make 2013 a very successful year please remember if you have any concerns come into school and see either the class teacher or myself .

Thank you for your continued support

 January 2013 - 1

Dear Parents/Carers,

Happy New Year . I have a feeling that 2013 is going to be a  really  good year.

Some of your children may have come home wearing a gold, silver or bronze star. I hope they have explained why they are wearing them. We are awarding the stars each half term for attendance.

As  promised the results of the questionnaire that so many of you took the time to complete.

We had a fantastic response and thank you for your comments and suggestions .

We are pleased you like the different entrances for the children. Can I remind you that if you wish to speak to a teacher let the teaching assistant know and she will pass the message onto the teacher .

We had very positive comments especially about the children’s memory books and the curriculum newsletters .

YOU SAID - WE LISTENED

Things you commented on and what we are doing about it.

  • The amount of children using the side door at 3.15

Year one will now leave school at 3.15 through the front entrance. They will still use the side door in the morning.

  •  Communication regarding events in school .

A list of events and dates for each half term will be sent out on the Thursday of the first week back at school. They will also be on the school’s website.

  • Children losing their uniform.

PLEASE put your child’s name in their clothes so that they can be returned to them. We have bags of unnamed clothes in school.

  • Ensure all children wear the correct uniform.

We have a uniform policy and encourage all the Parents/Carers to send their children in the correct uniform. Can I remind you that trainers should only be wore at playtime and for outdoor games.

  • Information on how you can support your child’s learning

The teachers are looking at ways to give you ideas to support your children’s learning. The most important is listening to your children read a few minutes each night certainly makes a difference.

  • Homework – amount and when it is sent out.

Some parents have requested homework be given over the weekend. We have discussed this but appreciate that at the weekend some children visit parents or have other activities like swimming, dancing etc

We will look at the amount given and when it is given and listen to your suggestions.

  • Information about the Governors and their roles in school.

The Governors photographs are on display in the entrance .All the governors have written a little information about themselves and what they do for the school. This will be sent out this half term. If anyone is interested in becoming a Governor please come and see me.

  • How you can support your child’s learning

We are looking at more ways to involve you and will be sending out information during this half term

Thank you for your continued support
